Minnesota Voters Alliance

NEWS ARCHIVE

(back to news)

- The Pioneer Press published our Op-Ed on IRV, 2/24/09.

- We recently filed a complaint with the Minnesota News Council regarding the biased reporting in the Star Tribune. (See the complaint)

- Hennepin County District Court ruled in favor of IRV. The Court failed to address the key points that make IRV unconstitutional. It did not consider Brown v. Smallwood, and it focused on side issues while missing the key point of what preferential voting does to the nature of a vote and to the voter. We are appealing this decision. (See our press release)

Court Case items:

Judge's order  Lindback affidavit  Memo S J - City of Mpls  Memo Summary Judgment  Memo in opp to SJ - Mpls   Memo in opp FairVote   Memo in opp to SJ  Sur-Reply memo  Brams Affidavit  Brams supplemental  Appelants' Principal Brief

Please note: there were a couple of small errors in our responses and affidavits; they will be addresses in oral arguments.

- The Minnesota Voters Alliance filed a notice of appeal with the Minnesota Court of Appeals. It is anticipated that the City of Minneapolis will file for an expedited hearing with the State Supreme Court to by-pass the Court of Appeals process. - We spoke before the St. Paul City Council hearing July 2. While most members ignored our arguments, they still made the correct decision to NOT place IRV on the ballot. (see www.stpaul.gov. Video here.)

- IRV is NOT about race! Minneapolis City Council member Ralph Remington and Senator Mee Moua wrote a ridiculous article in the Spokesman-Recorder saying IRV helps persons of color.  IRV hurts ALL voters regardless of race! See Flaw #3 on the IRV page.
